Technology Spotlight at Entertainment Technology Expo

Written by Laura Pursley

Sony, Meduza, Ciphertex and others debut new products.

Attendees of next week’s Entertainment Technology Expo in Burbank will be among the first to see many new and exciting products for content creators.

techspot-meduzaMeduza Systems makes their Hollywood debut with the Meduza TITAN, a dual-sensor stereoscopic 3d camera in a compact, lightweight design for documentary, sports field and broadcast production. Its two 1080p CMOS sensors can record 24fps to 120fps in 10 bit. The TITAN has fully motorized IO, convergence, focus and Iris controls. Featuring a titanium body and compact size that can be operated by one person, the TITAN creates options for small crews and small budgets.

Fresh off an IBC Innovation award, Rorke Data brings its Strawberry project sharing software to the Expo. Strawberry by Flavoursys was developed by editors and directors at a German television station to handle complex production issues while being easy to understand. The intuitive user interface allows collaborators to quickly learn how to share among themselves an unlimited number of projects in an organized manner, making collaboration with Avid, FCP and Adobe Premier easier than ever.

Ciphertex, a manufacturer of portable, hardware-encrypted external disk drives and RAID arrays, debuts a new line of storage products designed to help the media and entertainment industry securely manage their content at all levels - from the set, through post to distribution. Their 5-drive RANGER-A/V RAID array family provides AES 256-bit encryption, the most secure level of encryption available, and approved by the US Government for use in secure applications.

As a market leader and innovator, OpenText software manages the marketing assets, packaging and distribution for major studio theatrical film releases, library archives for distributors, and branding assets for web and print advertising by a top game company. OpenText will be sharing their next generation digital asset management systems with Expo attendees, with the goal of helping organizations work smarter, not harder.

techspot-sonyF65Sony’s F65 CineAlta™ digital motion picture camera generated excitement at its recent ASC and DGA unveilings, and will be on display at the Entertainment Technology Expo. The F65 derives true 4K resolution, and beyond, at the point of image capture. Its unique 8K image sensor – approximately 20 total megapixels – delivers higher image fidelity than any other digital cinema production camera. With 16-bit Linear RAW File output capability, the F65 creates the gateway to an end-to-end 4K file-based mastering workflow.

5th Kind will be highlighting their collaborative production workflow for creative industries at the Expo, as well as announcing the addition of iPad, iPhones, media tablets and smart phones as creative review tools to their desktop, web-based interface. 5th Kind’s creative workflow enables a reviewer to mark files as “approved” or “rejected” with a single keystroke, draw on files with annotation tools, leave comments either on the video frame or photo itself, record an audio note attached to a specific frame, participate in live chat reviews with other system users and share their annotations and audio notes through a system-generated email link.

See all of these new products and more than 75 other exhibitors for free at the Entertainment Technology Expo in Burbank, November 2-3, 2011.
