Joseph Bachana, DPCI
President/Founder

Mr. Bachana began his career in the late 1980's at the New York Times in its Production Technology Group. He furthered his career at the Associated Press as technical services manager for AP AdSend, the digital delivery system from advertisers to AP member newspapers. Mr. Bachana went on to be senior Project Manager at I.M.A.G.E. Inc, then Senior Account Manager at Inacom, before founding DPCI in April, 1999.

 

A native of New York, Mr. Bachana is a graduate of both Brown (BA) and Columbia (GS) Universities and holds PMP certification from the Project Management Institute. Mr. Bachana serves on the editorial board of Palgrave-Macmillan's Journal for DAM, is a guest speaker on Multi-Channel Publishing, Content Management and Digital Asset Management at The O'Reilly Tools of Change Conference, The Gilbane Conference on Content Management, Createasphere Digital Asset Management Conference, Henry Stewart Symposium, AIIM, Publishing Business, DMA and other industry conferences.

tom-barnouw Tom Barnouw, Senior Systems Engineer, WWE
Tom Barnouw is a Senior Systems Engineer at WWE.  For the past six years he has managed and customized their DAM system accounting for over 1 million assets.  Tom has focused on simplifying complex workflows within the company and streamlining the archival and retrieval process of their digital assets.
sarah-berndt Sarah Berndt, NASA
Sarah Berndt has a background in education and content management as well as interface development and design. In addition to being a fun and interesting person, Sarah holds a Master of Science degree in Library Sciences focusing on information architecture and information systems. Since becoming the Johnson Space Center Taxonomist, her focus is driven by process refinement, collaboration, case studies, and best practices.
Mark Darlow: Senior Portfolio Product Line Manager, Digital Asset Management and Automation, Harris
Mark Darlow is a fourth generation Harris acquiree, having worked for Boss Associates, Enterprise Systems, Encoda Systems and now Harris Corporation. He has a background in broadcast communications, representing the ITV companies in the UK for several years, followed by MTV and the Viacom group. Mark has managed the Harris Invenio digital asset management product line since 2006.

Previous to working in broadcast communications, Mr. Darlow was an officer in the British Army. He was educated at Wellington School, Sandhurst Military College and Exeter University.

Peggy enjoyed a diverse career at Hewlett-Packard from 1985 – 2009, where for the last 8 years she held global responsibility for HP’s strategy, GTM model, and partner relationships for digital content management and distribution solutions in the telecommunications and media & entertainment markets.

 

Peggy’s previous roles in sales and financing provided her with a broad view of enterprise communications, business planning, and emerging technologies.

Henrik de Gyor is currently the Digital Asset Manager at K12 Inc. (www.k12.com) in Virginia. K12 is a leading online education company. Currently, K12 uses their DAM within product development, marketing, operations, and subsidiaries. Prior to being at K12, Henrik was a staff photographer and photo editor working on newspapers, magazines, and annual reports in the Washington DC area. Ryan Dellolio is a Web Program Manager at the George Washington University, and his varying research and professional work includes human-computer interface design, web development, online information and intelligence systems, enterprise content management systems, and enterprise architectures. Ryan is an active member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE, where he works on technical standards and best-practice solutions for the IT industry while publishing and participating in conferences around the world. He has worked as a developer and a consultant to many leading organizations and their management, in addition to maintaining active participation in open-source communities such as Wikipedia and Drupal. His work "Fuzzy logic based interactive method for adaptable and dynamic user interfaces," is United States Patent Pending. Ryan teaches for The George Washington University's School of Business and lectures on the intersections of business and technology.

David Diamond is a digital asset management veteran, having first started with Canto more than 10 years ago. In addition to directing Canto's global marketing, Diamond is known throughout the DAM community as the author of Canto's "Exploring Cumulus" and "Cumulus Power Tips" document series. As a digital asset management expert and relentless user advocate, Diamond regularly presents webinars and speaks on topics of interest to DAM users and prospects.  Prior to Canto, Diamond held senior management positions at Apple, Sony and the University of Southern California.

John Dougherty, Hearst Corporation

John Dougherty is Director of Content Management at Hearst Corporation. He has overseen diverse technology efforts in cooperation with editorial and production teams for publications such as Elle, Woman’s Day and Car and Driver. That has included implementation of editorial workflow systems for print and tablet publications, issue planning, digital asset management, XML schemas, taxonomy management, prepress production, color management, ad and image portals, and creative software.

John has been part of a number of industry-wide initiatives, especially those pertaining to metadata, such as nextPub and PRISM. He has led or served on a number of working groups pertaining to multi-platform publishing, photo management, and usage rights.

John-Florance John Florance, Kaplan Inc.
John Florance has been designing and managing both production workflows since the 1980s. He has held a variety of IT and production management roles in the yellow page, financial services and educational publishing industries. He is currently leading a company-wide DAM implementation at Kaplan Inc., a Washington Post Company.

Kaplan has grown tremendously over the last decade through both accusation and organic growth. These independent businesses have both print and online assets and include both production and marketing workflows. There was no single asset management strategy that addressed the usual storage, governance and deployment challenges with media management. As a result, Kaplan established an enterprise-wide DAM in 2008 and has currently implemented six business units. Current efforts are focused on ECMS integration and media management. Current challenges include managing the explosive growth of high definition video and evangelizing the benefits of using production metadata standards around the enterprise.

Charlie Gray,  Motorola

Charlie Gray is the Senior Consulting Manager of Marketing Platform Services and Enterprise Content Management ECM Strategy and Operations at Motorola responsible for managing 30,000 digital assets used in over 40 countries by more then 2,000 users. Gray’s background is in BPM and ECM strategy and his current role involves managing the web platform services operation and the strategy and management for implementing new web platform capabilities.

George Grippo, General Manager, CET Universe

George Grippo is General Manager for CET Universe focusing on the growth of CETs Eastern Operations and its core products including the industry leading Archive, Storage and Media Management platform, Constellation VCM™, which is used by leading media facilities and fortune 500 companies, among others.

 

Previously, George served as Vice President of Media Asset Management for North Plains, where he oversaw global deployments of the company’s product suite. Prior to this, he was the President and CEO of Venaca, where he helped define the company’s overall vision, which included a strategic merger. George has held leadership positions as CIO with several broadcast and media technology firms including  Sesame Workshop and Digital Network Television.

Alex Grossman is a 20 year veteran of the storage industry and a former Senior Director at Apple where he was responsible for driving the development of Apple's server and storage products. Prior to joining Apple, Grossman was Sr. Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and New Product Development at MicroNet Technology, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of hardware storage solutions for creative professionals and IT managers. Grossman has contributed to several patents associated with storage technology and led the team that developed the first FireWire-based Storage Area Network.
jackie-guerra Jacki M. Guerra, Senior Director, Media Asset Services, A+E Networks
Jacki Guerra has worked in the Entertainment, Media and Communications industries for nineteen years, and currently leads Media Asset Services for A+E Networks.  While her focus is on enterprise and International media research and fulfillment, asset protection, metadata management, file-based workflow and system design, Jacki is also the Project Management Officer for the A+E Production, Operations and Engineering division.  A recent success was the integration of Lifetime Networks into the existing A+E technical operation following the merger of the two companies.  Jacki was previously with Turner Entertainment for ten years working on various DAM, broadcast technology, and custom system and workflow projects.  She also worked as a PricewaterhouseCoopers consultant for a variety of top-tiered clients implementing both custom and package systems and change integration.  Jacki is a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Marketing Communications.
Robert-Haskitt Robert Haskitt, Extreme Reach
Robert Haskitt is the Chief Marketing Officer at Extreme Reach, a leading provider of video advertising management and distribution solutions. Robert is responsible for the company’s global marketing strategy and functions including brand, audience, business-to-business and regional marketing, as well as insights, global communications, policy, and related teams.

Robert’s career spans more than 15 years in both TV and online advertising. Before joining Extreme Reach, Robert served as Director of Marketing at Microsoft where he introduced the Microsoft Media Network and Microsoft Advertising brands, and served as Marketing Director for the Atlas Digital Marketing Suite.

Prior to that, Robert was Executive Vice President of Product Marketing at FastChannel Network, a provider of SaaS solutions for television advertising management and distribution.

He has served as a marketing advisor to several online marketing technology firms, been a featured speaker at industry events including the iMedia Brand Summit, and written several articles on the subject of digital marketing effectiveness.

Robert lives in the Seattle area with his wife and three children.
Guy_hellier Guy Hellier, VP, Digital Media Solutions, OpenText
Guy is a technologist and customer enthusiast who has been helping to bridge the business/technology divide as customers plan and evolve their digital asset management solutions.  Guy has worked extensively for the past 12 years in digital media solutions for Brand Management, Media & Entertainment, Publishing, Education and Government requirements.  He also works with customers on DAM integration strategies across the larger “ecosystem” of enterprise business apps, including production technologies, CRM/MRM, ERP, rights management and media distribution.

Guy saw the light and entered the digital media field after completing degrees in physics and learning the world of IT as an executive at SallieMae.
MarkHill Mark Hill, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.

Mark Hill is director of photography for the Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.) image management group. Hill oversees the image management photography team and is responsible for creating photography and video for TBS, Inc. networks including CNN, Cartoon Network, TBS, TNT, Turner Classic Movies, and truTV. He is based in Atlanta and reports to Barbara Griffin, senior vice president of image management for TBS, Inc.

 

Hill joined TBS, Inc. in 1994 after several years as a freelance photographer shooting for magazine and book publishers such as The New York Times Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Family Circle, Alfred Knopf and Harper Collins. While at Turner Broadcasting, he has photographed an array of personalities, including Cher, Ernest Bornine, Danny Devito, Bill Hader, Betty White, Julie Andrews, Soledad O’Brien, and Andre 3000. He has also been responsible for creating photography, key art and video on a number of high profile productions that include TNT’s Ricochet, Innocent and the series Memphis Beat; CNN’s Black in America, Terror in the Dust and the 2011 Republican Debates; and TruTV’s Black Gold, Hardcore Pawn and Operation Repo.

 

Hill’s work has appeared in numerous publications, such as The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, Variety and USA Today and he was nominated in 2010 and 2011 for Emmy awards for his photography and video work for CNN. Stewart, Tabori and Chang recently published 100 Years of Oz featuring 70 of Hill’s photographs.

Sally Hubbard is Director, Media Management and Taxonomy at HBO, focusing on metadata strategy and media asset management.  She has previously worked at the Getty Research Institute on digital asset management and standards development and at the UCLA Film & Television Archive on encoding and repurposing archival collections.

Alex has been a Publishing and Digital Graphics Technology expert for over two decades. Designing and building Digital Asset Management systems for Fortune 100 / 500 companies, strategizing and establishing key workflows with the latest innovative technologies and solutions for multi-channel distribution. In most of his positions, such as Director of Strategic Technology at Splashlight, Alex has held key responsibilities in developing the logic and process for various backup routines and recovery.

When not heavily involved in troubleshooting systems and the like, Alex surfs the swells that hit Rockaway Beach with his two sons Sandon (8) and Parker (6).

Dianne Kennedy is the Vice President of Emerging Technologies for IDEAlliance. Ms. Kennedy oversees and guides the development of emerging technology specifications and best practices to support platform agnostic, cross media publishing. Her responsibilities include nextPub, PRISM, XMPInterop and other IDEAlliance eMedia technical initiatives. Ms. Kennedy is the Director for the IDEAlliance eMedia Professional Certification Program and develops other emerging technology training programs. She participates in the Ghent Work Group and the International Digital Publishing Forum.

Andrew Mannone, Workflow and Asset Manager, America’s Test Kitchen

Andrew Mannone is the Workflow and Asset Manager for America’s Test Kitchen. He has spent the last five years as lead workflow designer for the in-house production department, overhauling every aspect of the imaging process. The result is a dynamic set of workflows that integrate Photoshop scripting and a Cumulus Enterprise DAM backend. The systems Andrew developed support America’s Test Kitchen’s complex imaging requirements for the more than 40 magazine and book titles published yearly, including the company’s five web properties.

 

When not tinkering with a script or new workflow, Andrew can be found on the Cumulus User Forum where he’s one of the top contributors, helping users all over the web.

Sam Merrell

Sam Merrell is a digital photo workflow and metadata consultant in New York City. He provides technical and business solutions for clients with larger collections of images. A photographer, Sam also serves on the board of the American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP) as Technology Co-Chair. From 1999 to 2004 Sam was CTO for Solus Images, a high-end boutique stock photography agency; in 2005 he was one of several authors of the first edition of the PLUS Image Licensing Terms glossary and a co-founder of the UPDIG Coalition. Previously Sam taught advanced digital photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York city and was an Associate Editor at Photo District News magazine.

Ivan Mironchuk, Director of Integration Services, DPCI

As Director of Integration Services at DPCI, Mr. Mironchuk manages enterprise digital asset management, web content management, and workflow management implementations on behalf of DPCI's customers. Mr. Mironchuk holds a Masters in Printing Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology and is the author of "Hand of a Master: Achievements in the Graphic Arts" (RIT Press, 2002).


GeorgeMulholland

George Mulholland, Director of Media Services, TruTV

George Mulholland is director of Media Services for truTV, formerly Court TV, a subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting System Inc. His duties include management of quality control, international distribution, digital archiving, the tape library, and dubbing center.  Based at truTV’s New York headquarters, Mulholland reports to Rob Pumo, senior vice president of Broadcast and Technical Operations for truTV.

 

Mulholland joined the company in 1999 as manager of Media Services and was promoted to his current title of director in 2004. In this role, he oversees and maintains all digital media on both online servers and offline digital tape archive and supervises ingesting and purging of all media off digital servers. Additionally, he is responsible for on-air quality control, overseas content distribution, and closed captioning for all prime time programming.

 

Mulholland began his television career as a Library Services Assistant at Viacom Networks Group in 1987.  He holds a bachelors degree in Broadcasting from Hofstra University.

Paul Nicholson Paul Nicholson - ShowTime
As Vice President of Print & Broadcast Production for Showtime Networks, Inc., Paul Nicholson oversees two distinct production disciplines. On the print side, Nicholson oversees Showtime’s pre-press studio, retouching services & production management departments. On the broadcast side, he supervises Showtime’s RED POST audio/video edit facility, its pre- and post-production departments and scheduling services. Paul prides himself on the great team he has put in place at Showtime and the workflow and process he and his team have developed over the past 12 years. Showtime’s in-house agency called RED GROUP, handles all advertising and marketing responsibilities of the companies 15 television networks.

Along with his production responsibilities, Nicholson manages all technology for the print & broadcast areas, which includes all of the creative and productions tools, the corporate digital asset management infrastructure, the agency job management systems and all custom software design and development.

As a recognized leader in the industry, Paul has spoken at many industry events including the Henry Stewart DAM Users conference, Adobe Ideas, Macworld, P3 seminars and Seybold.

Before joining Showtime Networks, Paul was Director of Production for the award-winning advertising agency Franklin Spier, where he oversaw the print buying, studio, traffic and IT departments.
Ryan-Nowak

Ryan Nowak, Green Bay Packers

Ryan Nowak is a Computer Systems Analyst for the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Green Bay Packers. His role at the Packers requires him to be skilled in a variety of areas. Over the past 8 years, Ryan has been involved with committees and projects within the Packers that included social media, mobile applications, digital signage, digital asset management, secure intranet and extranet, and security surveillance.

Nowak maintains the Packers’ digital asset management system, which houses thousands of photos from games dating back to 1919. He is tasked with software maintenance, interface customization, user security, and maintaining data integrity.

Richard A. Nulman is a leading marketing, branding and advertising expert with 37 years of experience, all at the same company, Pace Advertising Agency.  Founded in 1949, Pace is a full-service marketing-advertising-public relations firm with a staff of over 35 professionals and offices in New York City, Orlando and Boca Raton.

David Riecks, ControlledVocabulary.com

David Riecks founded ControlledVocabulary.com as a resource to help others learn how best to build controlled vocabulary lists, thesauri, and keyword hierarchies for describing images in databases. He has been involved in many recent digital image standards initiatives as well as being a featured speaker at industry events such as PhotoPlus Expo, the Microsoft Pro Photo Summit, and the first and second International PhotoMetadata Conferences.

Riecks currently chairs the
SAA Imaging Technology Standards committee that urges industry adoption of photo metadata standards. He also serves as the Chief Technical Advisor for the PLUS Coalition, which developed the Picture Licensing Universal Standards. Riecks formerly chaired the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) Digital Photography Standards & Practices committee, where he was involved in the founding of the Universal Photographic Digital Imaging Guidelines coalition.

In 2004, Riecks was asked to participate in a working group to revise the decade old IPTC standard for use with Adobe's new XMP format. That IPTC4XMP group released the IPTC Core in 2005 along with a first ever "
Custom Panels User Guide to the IPTC Core Schema for XMP" for which he served as the primary author. He has remained involved with the IPTC and has contributed to the IPTC Photo Metadata working group which released the update to the IPTC Core (v 1.1) in 2008, along with the IPTC Extension 1.0 schema.

Riecks has recently assumed project leadership for the
Stock Artists Alliance, Photo Metadata Education project, using an award from the US Library of Congress as part of their "Preserving Creative America" Initiative. In recognition of his years of work to further photo metadata standards, he was named as a "Pioneer of Digital Preservation" by the Library of Congress in 2009.

Daniel Sieberg

Daniel Sieberg is an Emmy®-nominated reporter and author covering science, technology, space and the environment. He currently hosts and writes a weekly program called Tech This Out! for ABC News, routinely anchors World News Now, and contributes technology stories to other ABC News broadcasts including Nightline and Good Morning America. He also regularly appears on MSNBC, CBS Sunday Morning, BBC World News America, PBS, CNN, HLN, Details magazine, The Daily and a variety of other outlets. He also writes and produces his own radio segment, maintains a blog, and has appeared as a featured guest on The Dr. Oz Show and The Nate Berkus Show.

 

Sieberg’s first book about his “digital diet” approach to technology was published on May 3, 2011 (Random House/Crown/Three Rivers).

 

Sieberg was the CBS News science and technology correspondent from December 2006 to February 2010 reporting for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, The Early Show, CBS Sunday Morning, CBS Radio and CBSNews.com. While at CBS News, Sieberg reported on a wide variety of subjects from the Arctic to Africa, from South America to southeast Asia, from Seattle to South Beach; from swimming with sharks to a live demonstration of the latest gadgets to reporting in zero gravity. In 2008, Sieberg also co-hosted 40, one-hour episodes of an environmental lifestyle show called G Word during the inaugural season of Discovery Channel’s Planet Green network.

 

From 2000-2006 Sieberg was the technology correspondent for CNN, CNN International, and CNN Headline News (now HLN). During that time, he also anchored Next@CNN, a weekly broadcast about science, technology, space and environment and appeared often on shows like American Morning, Anderson Cooper 360 and NewsNight with Aaron Brown. Sieberg also anchored a daily technology segment for two years on Morning Express with Robin Meade.

 

Sieberg has served as an analyst for PBS’ Frontline, BusinessWeek, NPR, BBC Radio, BBC News, Discovery Channel, Fuse.tv, CourtTV and Animal Planet. Between 1998-2000 Sieberg was a daily reporter for western Canada's largest newspaper, the Vancouver Sun, covering technology, business and civic issues. While at CTV News, he worked as a video game reviewer and as an associate producer for a news panel show from 1998-1999.

 

Sieberg has been nominated for five News and Documentary Emmyâ Awards and won accolades from the likes of the Society of Environmental Journalism and the World Technology Awards. In 2007, he was named a Portfolio magazine “Business Broadcasting All-Star” and he is a recipient of Canada's Rafe Mair Award for public service journalism. His written work has appeared in the Huffington Post, Details, Oprah.com, Salon.com, Time magazine, the Vancouver Sun, the Toronto Star, and many other publications.

 

Sieberg has a bachelor’s degree in writing (UVic, ’98) and master's degree in journalism with a focus in technology (UBC, '00). He and his wife live in New York City with their delightful daughter and irascible beagle.

A founding member of The Fourth Parable, (www.fourthparable.com) Stadler has guided organizations to solutions in the fields of higher education, fashion, photography, and more through brand visualization, nationwide campaigns, publications, identity packages, and custom curricula focused on brand education. His passion for solving organizational needs through theory and information visualization has led to the development of new methods for data and information navigation; Modular Axes, a new system for visual layout; 120hours, a guided internship program; and Pocket Snapper, a photography primer for beginning and advanced practitioners. He also teaches photography, design, and production, utilizing a thorough cross-discipline approach to design and problem solving.

Barbara Taranto, New York Public Library, Managing Director NYPL Labs

Ms. Taranto is the Managing Director of NYPL Labs – the Research and Development arm of the Office of Strategic Planning at New York Public Library.


In her capacity she is responsible for the development and implementation of the Preservation and Access Digital Repository, the Digital Rights Management System, the GeoSpatial Open Layers services and the A/V Technical data repository.


Prior to her current position she held the office of Director of the Digital Library Program. During her tenure she architected and managed NYPL Digital Gallery, In Motion: The African American Migration Experience, The National Digital Newspaper Program and the creation of the Digital Object Workfow System.


Ms. Taranto holds degrees in Philosophy, Computer Science and Digital Information Science.

Carol is the VP, Director of Digital Asset & Workflow Systems at LLNS. With over 20 years of software, design, production, and prepress experience, she excels at integrating creative technology with creative work. At LLNS, she manages the DAM system and creates client- and vendor-facing web portals, while incorporating project management and paperless workflows. To her, successful solutions create an atmosphere where people feel they are working with technology, not for or against it. She uses the taxonomy and structure benefits of the DAM as a platform; increasing productivity, efficiency, and cohesion through improved and streamlined access to files from start-up to delivery. She has experienced DAM systems (or the need for them) from many sides: as a production manager for several magazines, as an art director and graphic designer, and as a senior production specialist at several New York advertising agencies. She contributes to asset management and creative technology journals, blogs, and conferences and delights in testing new solutions against real-world workflow challenges. She also keeps the creative side of her brain fueled as a singer/songwriter and guitarist, occasionally playing a few gigs around NYC.

Skiff Wager, SEW Consulting
Skiff Wager has over 32 years experience in the Print & Publishing, Music, and Broadcast & Cable markets for corporations like Xerox, MCA Records, Universal and Scripps Networks. Skiff has been a pioneer in setting the practice standards for global DAM initiatives since the early 1990’s. He guides both technology and investment companies as an industry expert and has guided the launch of over a dozen digital initiatives. His Practice Group provides support for strategic business planning, investments and resource management for both corporate business units and start-up operations.

Kathleen Wagner, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Kathleen Wagner is the Assistant Director of the Medical Graphics & Photography department at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.  Kathleen assists with the day-to-day operations of the department, which include, graphic design, photography, medical illustration, animation, visualization and wed based interface design. She initiated and continues to manage the DAM system for her department, which currently, contains approximately 2 million assets. The system, containing primarily patient images, is used in conjunction with the electronic medical record as part of patient assessment and diagnosis.

Kathleen has been with MD Anderson since 1991. She holds a master’s degree in medical and biological illustration and began her career at MD Anderson as a staff medical illustrator. She has served in many roles in Medical Graphics & Photography from managing computer systems to implementing copyright policies.

Jason-Young Jason S. Young, New Media Director, JYSproductions, LLC.
Jason Young is a New Media Director and the owner of the multimedia company JYSproductions, LLC. At a young age, the St. Louis, MO native began exploring many forms of medium in order to express himself creatively. His drive and mastery of various mediums caught the attention of several colleges, most notably the Art Academy of Cincinnati, where he received a full scholarship in 1993. In 2000, Jason formed JYSproductions which has since created works and produced video and marketing content for various companies and labels. Some of his recent works have been in collaboration with Emmy-winning directors and have Jason delving into the world of film. His most current undertaking is in the area of advanced cinematic content creation and digital distribution, and the development of the VideoStorm platform. Jason’s latest work has been in collaboration with EnterMedia software to develop unique workflows with DAM systems for video professionals in order to further expand the reach of his company’s creative content.

Jason currently resides in Cincinnati where he continues to run his multimedia company and acts as lead media director, creative director, keynote speaker, photographer, website designer, and cinematographer.
