Alex will use his experience over the past season of SNL to demonstrate everything you need to know when it comes to shooting HDSLR Cinema. Topics covered will include an extensive setup primer: discussing shutter speeds, frame rates, aspect ratios, camera settings, and vital production gear. Alex will also cover his work flow - both on-set and in post production, including topics such as, "Advantages of Canon DSLR versus other Formats"; "Transcoding files into edit-friendly codecs"; and "How to create time lapse sequences". Whether you are a photographer looking to transition into video production, or a veteran cinematographer looking to embrace new technology, this lecture will provide a comprehensive introduction to HDSLR cinema.     

 

About Alex Buono
For the past nine seasons, Alex Buono has been the director of photography for Saturday Night Live, for which he recently used one of Canon’s EOS HDSLR cameras to shoot the opening montage. In 2003, Alex received an Oscar nomination for his work on the short film Johnny Flynton”, which he produced and photographed. In the past, he has also worked on the camera crews for films such as Twister, Conspiracy Theory and Armageddon. Buono is a member of the Writer’s Guild of America, International Cinematographer’s Guild and International Documentary Association.

Sony is fully committed to 35MM imager technology, having set the benchmark with the F35. Continuing on from this, Sony is introducing the SRW-9000PL, a cost effective, single piece shoulder mount camcorder. In addition, the HDCAM SR format continues to evolve, with the ability to handle 2K and file based workflow.

This intensive will focus in on Sony's 35MM camera technology and the next generation HDCAM SR platform.

An overview of ARRI’s exciting new ALEXA camera system. The presentation will cover the design philosophy, feature set and workflow considerations when shooting with ALEXA. Sample footage shot with ALEXA will be shown and there will be an opportunity for Question and Answer as part of the presentation.

 

About Michael Bravin

Michael is responsible for market development for ARRI digital cameras, specifically the ALEXA series. His area of responsibility is the Americas. His role is to expand the traditional market for ARRI, the leader in motion picture film cameras, lenses and professional camera accessory sales and service, and additionally the ARRI Laser film recorder and the ARRI Scan film scanner. His responsibilities also include technical marketing where his role is to work with clients, vendors and the factory for a clear two way pathway of communication to insure responsiveness in features and functions in ARRI's equipment.
