HD EXPO - Createasphere NY Blows Past Goalpost

Superlative Panels, Exhibition, Education and Community Meetings Ruled the Day for Second Year of Entertainment Technology Show

September 21, 2009 (Burbank, CA)    On September 17th, HD EXPO – Createasphere returned to New York for its second year, settling into The New Yorker Hotel and Conference Center in midtown Manhattan.  Registration doubled from the event’s maiden voyage in September of 2008, and the exhibition, panels, meetings and education were filled to standing room only for much of the day.

HD EXPO – Createasphere panels featured some of the most compelling content creators working today.  Lance Acord, revered for his photography of “Marie Antoinette,” “Lost in Translation” and “Being John Malkovitch” joined Pat Thomson from American Cinematographer Magazine in a far reaching conversation covering creativity, the art and science of cinematography and insights from the upcoming “Where The Wild Things Are.”  American Cinema Editors brought out a panel of the most respected editors working in the industry today, including Michael Berenbaum ("Nurse Jackie," "Sex and the City," "The Wire)," John Gilroy ("Salt," "Pride & Glory," "Michael Clayton"), Brian A. Kates ("Jack Goes Boating," "Taking Chance," "The Savages"), Craig McKay ("All Good Things, "Silence of the Lambs," "Everything is Illuminated") and Tim Squyres ("Taking Woodstock," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” "Rachel Getting Married"), in an exploration of the craft of the editor.

HD EXPO – Createasphere also saw a first in the community, the regional debut of a User Group Super Summit, where, Apple, and Adobe supporters and users gathered, shared and learned.  This combined event signals an exciting time of collaboration and a new understanding of the fluidity and interoperability of the tools and applications.

The New York Production Alliance held an Open Meeting for their members and HD EXPO – Createasphere attendees which addressed the tax incentives, runaway and the state of the industry in New York City.  Panelists included a number of industry leaders including; Stuart Suna, Silvercup Studios; Angela Miele, MPAA; John Ford, IATSE local 52; Nancy Fox, SAG; Mike Jackman, Deluxe New York; Dominic Rom, PostWorks NY; and Tom O'Donnell from Teamsters Local 817.

HD EXPO –Createasphere President Kristin Petrovich noted that, “As HD EXPO ends its year of transformation to Createasphere, we are especially proud to see that we have been successful in New York.  The community, the companies, the content creators we work with here have been absolutely incredible and we look forward to growing deep roots here.  We are looking forward to an even bigger presence next year.”

The next HD EXPO – Createasphere takes place on November 4th & 5th in Burbank, California and will feature two full days of leading-edge education, revolutionary exhibition and powerful networking.  HD EXPO – Createasphere Los Angeles will present the Third Annual 3D Day.
