HD EXPO REACHES FOR THE STARS
HD EXPO Reaches Its Highest Attendance Levels at the Third HD EXPO Event for the High Definition Community in 2003
Burbank, CA – On Thursday, November 6th, HD EXPO held the 6th EXPO for the High Definition Community. More than 850 people from all aspects of the industry attended the EXPO, held in Hollywood at Production Group Studios, a full service high definition, turn-key video production facility, providing everything from facilities, equipment and crews to production office space, field production packages, coordination of services and much more.
Attendees were greeted by Marilyn Monroe as they enjoyed mingling, eating In & Out Burger and gazing at the moon and mars through telescopes. Sponsors, who include Panasonic, JVC, IDX, E Cinema, Keycode Media, Sony, Discreet and many more, displayed their products and services in a central area as attendees networked with others in the high definition community. "As HD EXPO grows and expands I am delighted with the quality of attendees and sponsors that we are attracting. Having the American Society of Cinematographers and The Hollywood Post Alliance involved added to the quality of HD EXPO which is a personal commitment of mine. We are holding true to our statement: HD EXPO, Defining the Community," states Kristin Petrovich, Founder/CEO of HD EXPO.
Two interesting education panels took place over the evening. The first panel, “The Art of Cinematography in the Digital Age” was moderated by journalist and cinematography writer Bob Fisher. This panel, sponsored by the ASC, brought together a distinguished group of DP’s working in feature films, TV shows and commercials who discussed their experiences in using film and digital acquisition tools. Panelists included cinematographers Jim Chressanthis, ASC, Roy Wagner, ASC and Gil Hubbs, ASC.
The Hollywood Post Alliance sponsored the second panel, “The Impact of Shifting Technology on the Business of Post.” Leon Silverman, president of the Hollywood Post Alliance moderated the panel of post’s most prominent leaders, including Marco Bario - Senior VP, Technicolor Creative Services/Hollywood, Larry Bridges - President, Red Car, Ron Burdett - President, Sunset Digital, Pete Nehl - CTO, The Post Group, Barry Snyder - CEO, Post Logic Studios and Phil Mendelson - CTO, Ascent Media Creative Service, who discussed the future of their business as we race headlong into the digital age.
HD EXPO, which has been creating a buzz among the High Definition community, will continue to produce exciting, fun-themed events in original locations. As HD EXPO 2003 wraps up, we are proud to have two more VariCamp Workshops in Los Angeles, an ASC invitation only VariCamp on December 6th and a full three day VariCamp on January 22, 23 & 24th in Los Angeles. And, 2004 will hold some exciting additions with both the EXPO and our workshop division,” says Petrovich. “The 2004 EXPO will shift from an evening event to a day-long event with an evening gala. This will result in more panels, more discussion, more networking and more knowledge sharing.”
HD EXPO creates a unique High Definition community through content-driven and theme-based venues where both film and video industry professionals learn more about High Definition related products, services and issues. HD EXPO is the first in the nation to produce high definition events of this genre and magnitude. HD EXPO stimulates interest in and increases exposure for participating sponsors/exhibitors; unites High Definition related events, meetings and user groups under one banner; enables people to share technology, to mix within the industry and to engage in hands-on education.
