Panasonic Brings Movie of the Week "Carrie" to HD EXPO

Panasonic and Sony Will Compare HD Cameras In A Side-By-Side Comparison

THE PRODUCTION GROUP STUDIOS, Hollywood, CA: The next HD EXPO will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at The Production Group Studios in Hollywood. Representatives from Panasonic will discuss the shooting of NBC's Movie of the Week, "Carrie," in high definition. In addition, Sony and Panasonic will bring their high def cameras for a side-by-side comparison. HD EXPO is taking the high definition industry by storm and the perfect chance to get the latest information from an acknowledged industry leaders has arrived again. For the last time this year, professionals in the production and post production industry will gather to share with attendees the latest up and coming high definition technologies.

As part of HD EXPO's agenda excerpts from the re-make of the feature film "Carrie" will be shown. The NBC Movie of the Week is based on the novel by Stephen King. Panasonic will host this presentation with Victor Goss, the Director of Photography for "Carrie" and Hudson Hickman, Vice President of Post Production for MGM Television. Goss and Hickman will discuss the making of "Carrie" in high definition from both the production and post production points of view. A question and answer session with Goss and Hickman will follow the presentation. "Carrie" airs on NBC on the 4th of November.

Additionally, the two leaders in the high definition acquisition arena will go head-to-head in a side-by-side comparison. Panasonic representatives will bring their Vari Cam while Sony will bring their CineAlta camera. They will discuss, clarify and present both technical specifications and field operation information of both cameras. This is a friendly and informative discussion held to better prepare attendees to make educated decisions as they embark upon high def features, television shows or other applications. The panel will be comprised of Doug Leighton from Panasonic and Dhanendra Patel of Sony. Leighton has over 35 years of diversified experience in the television industry, including a Technical Emmy award. Patel has been a lead Sales Support Engineer with the Sony corporation for the last five years, focusing his knowledge on their line of Broadcast high definition and Standard Definition cameras. Carolyn Giardina, editor of Film & Video, will moderate the comparison.

Also on the agenda, Pete Nehl, CTO of The Post Group located in Hollywood, will discuss the pitfalls associated with high def post production and how to avoid them. He will show footage of recently completed projects with a question and answer session to follow.

"The quality of this particular venue or event is outstanding for our products because the people at HD EXPO are going to be those who are genuinely interested in this technology," state Jeff Merritt, Product Line Business Manager of Panasonic. He further notes "HD EXPO allows people to ask the right questions of the right people."

HD EXPO will keep with their themed oriented events. The November 7th theme is "High Def - USA" which will feature catered In and Out Burgers, drink tickets and a juggling Uncle Sam perusing the newly upgraded Production Group Studios.

Executive Producer, Kristin Petrovich, states "The idea behind the themed oriented HD EXPO is that it will provide a forum for the attendees with an opportunity to speak one-on-one with the exhibitors and to gain educational insight within the high def arena all under a social umbrella. Most importantly, HD EXPO wants to promote and educate those in the high def industry".

For over 20 years, The Production Group Studios has been a provider of a full range of video and broadcast services to the entertainment industry. Additionally, tours of the newly refurbished virtual set stage will be given. Recent projects at The Production Group Studios include a 24P HD pilot for MTV, a Roman Coppola directed music video for the band Phantom Planet using virtual set technology, Late World with Zack for VH-1, Ex-Treme Dating for Fox, and Animal Planet's America's Funniest Animals.
