Regional Focus: Singapore Investing in Media Industry
singaporeWritten by Carolyn Giardina
IIf it seems like you’ve been hearing an increasing amount about Singapore, it is not a coincidence. The Republic of Singapore, an island and islets between Malaysia and Indonesia, is serious about becoming the center of media activity in Southeast Asia, and is investing heavily in achieving this goal.

Singapore has set aside funds, roughly $770 million for R&D and $391 million, to develop media in order to built its interactive and digital media sector, including; games, animation, visual effects and the creation of digital content. The aim is to develop a local talent pool, attract businesses, and build an infrastructure.

To attract international ventures, it is providing generous financial incentives to businesses that open in Singapore, including tax incentives and subsidized training of local talent. These bespoke financial packages are also subject to confidential agreements, and so participants declined to discuss details. READ MORE

Going Behind the Plastic Sheeting With Director-DP Romeo Tirone and Editor Louis Cioffi, ACE
Romeo Tirone: Shooting & Directing "Dexter"
Romeo Tirone has enjoyed a stellar career as a cinematographer, and is in the midst of some very exciting directing duties on "Dexter" and "True Blood." We asked him a few questions in advance of the BEST OF TV WEB CAST coming up on January 29th.

Romeo TironeCreateasphere: You have been shooting high profile television and music video projects for over a decade. What was it like to make a transition to director?

Romeo: I have always been interested in directing, and the transition from DP to Director has been almost seamless.

As a DP I have been lucky to work with so many great directors, and I apply everything I have learned from them when I direct. My experience as a DP helps me to streamline the logistics of shooting and blocking when I direct. I think it would be intimidating to walk on a set and direct without understanding the inner working of the set as a DP.

Createasphere: You worked on a number of high profile music videos for major artists (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tu Pac, etc.) How have those videos contributed to your skills and creativity? READ THE REST OF THE INTERVIEW HERE

Louis CoiLouis Cioffi, ACE: "Dexter," In The Cut

Cioffi has worked extensively in network, cable and features and is currently working on independent film, “Hidden Moon.”

Createasphere: What was your first job in "the industry?"

Louis: My first job in the industry was as an apprentice editor to documentary editor Don Finamore. I met Don at St. John's University; he was the professor for my film production class. Coincidentally, Romeo was also a student of Don's.
