In this issue:
When HD EXPO NY launched on September 25th, 2008, it was a new city, a new venue, and the team arrived armed with an endless list of things to do. It was obvious there was a need for reliable, short-term local staff that understood the industry. A call to the New York Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre, and Broadcasting led HD EXPO to an innovative program supporting production in New York, the “Made in NY” Production Assistant Training Program. HDE: The HD EXPO team called upon the young men and women that were part of the “Made in New York” PA Training Program and it paid off handsomely. They were bright, polite, on-task, and ready for the real world. Katy: Being a PA is hard work; the sooner our trainees know that and the better prepared they are, the better PA’s they will be. The same punctuality, attitude and responsibility are expected from the students as if they were paid production assistants. There’s no hand-holding and no coasting in these programs. In honour of this past election, TAKEHOLLYWOOD salutes 4 filmmakers and their spirit of independence. Producer John Daly (1937-2008) is considered by many to be the founding father of the independent film movement.
The creative and entrepreneurial force behind many of the big and medium-budget independent films of the '80s and '90s, he is respected as the risk-taker who backed films the big studios wouldn't touch. With a career as varied as it is long, maverick Debi Mazar has completed an astonishing amount of work as an actress.
She first began her career as a makeup artist, but after a breakout role in Goodfellas (1990) she has gone on to craft a independently minded career spanning almost two decades. Sandra Seacat is one of greatest acting teachers alive today. Respected by artists in the industry not only for her client list, which consists of the biggest stars in the business, but also her unorthodox approach to the craft and teaching it. Independent film producer par excellence Avi Lerner knows better than anyone in Hollywood how to get a film produced.
With an astounding 200 motion pictures to his credit, he has become one of the most formidable forces in the independent entertainment industry today. For more coaching sessions, subscribe to: http://www.takehollywood.com/user/register/toolbox.do HD EXPO is looking for HD Footage - got some?
